Full Swing, the industry leader in pioneering golf launch monitor and simulator technology, announces Clippd’s AI-derived Shot Quality scores are now available on the Full Swing app via the new Full Swing Combine.
Premium app subscribers will now have the ability to practice with even more purpose, as all indoor and outdoor shots recorded on the Full Swing KIT Launch Monitor will be scored with a single Shot Quality score between 0 and 200. The overall quality of a user’s Combine practice session will be scored between 0 and 200 as well.
To help with benchmarking performance, these scores fall into five categories:
Shot Quality builds on the advances made by the popular Strokes Gained statistic, but factors in additional layers of all-important context. Shot Quality scores on the golf course are impacted by multiple factors, including distance, start lie, end result, course conditions, weather and altitude. Objectively capturing all of this data and distilling it down to a single number will allow Full Swing premium subscribers to more effectively focus on specific areas of improvement.
“Adding Shot Quality to the 16 points of club and ball data already collected by KIT will give users even greater insights into the strengths and weaknesses of their games,” said Jason Fierro, Chief Operating Officer for Full Swing. “It’s a powerful and easy-to-understand metric that will not only identify specific distances and shot types that challenge them more than others, but also provide a simple way to compare their performance against players of different abilities.”
Full Swing’s premium app ($199 annual subscription) gives users access to more than just the new Shot Quality scoring. Other benefits include unlimited video storage and access to historical data like session archives and analysis, stats visualization, and club averages.
Social media personality and equipment expert Chris Trott is a Full Swing and Clippd expert and ambassador. “Assigning a single Shot Quality score for each shot is a pivotal advancement for players who are serious about making measurable progress toward their goals,” he said. “In our busy world, finding practice time is increasingly difficult, so Shot Quality helps to make the results of that time as quantifiable as possible.”
Clippd’s Shot Quality algorithms have been trained on millions of shots recorded by tour professionals and elite amateurs. Using some famous moments for further scoring context, Bryson DeChambeau’s 55-yard bunker shot to four feet on No. 18 during last year’s U.S. Open at Pinehurst earned a Shot Quality Score of 181. Phil Mickelson’s 207-yard 6-iron off the pine straw to four feet on the 13th hole during the final round of the 2010 Masters scored a 198. Conversely, Bernhard Langer’s missed six-foot putt in the final match at the 1991 Ryder Cup at Kiawah Island earned a Shot Quality Score of 39.
“We’re excited to team up with Full Swing to deliver something truly game-changing for golfers,” said Piers Parnell, CEO of Clippd. “Combining Clippd’s Shot Quality insights with Full Swing’s cutting-edge technology means players and coaches now have a clearer, smarter way to understand performance and accelerate improvement. This collaboration is all about giving golfers a richer experience – and ultimately, more enjoyment every time they step onto the course.”
