Golf Place: St Andrews through the lens of Kevin Murray

Kevin Murray is one of the finest golf course photographers at work today. He has a long history with St Andrews, which began with his first round on the Old Course. It was a fairly inauspicious experience: after getting lucky in the ballot he played through a howling gale that was so strong even his caddie advised against it. "I came off thinking I'd be happy never to see the place again," he laughs.

After this rocky start, his love for the town, its courses and landmarks began to bloom through his work with the St Andrews Links Trust. To whet your appetite for what is shaping up to be a truly memorable 150th Open Championship, we asked Kevin to make a selection of his favourite images of the Home of Golf – or as the street sign says: Golf Place.

Enjoy.

And within a matter of weeks St Andrews and the Old Course will return to normal, with golfing mortals following in the footsteps of the game's giants. Here, a wonderful view of the par 4 11th at dusk. Photograph by Kevin Murray.
